No. Added to the map means a volunteer mapped it, or a city listed it, on that day. The camera may have been up for weeks. City lists also have dates of their own, like the day warnings start, and the email says which is which.
Your email, and each place as an area, such as a neighborhood, or as a point rounded to within about half a mile. You can turn on “Use my exact spot” for an address you searched or a pin you placed. Then it keeps that spot, rounded to about 35 feet, only to send your alerts. Near me is always rounded. It also keeps the distance and camera types you picked, and the notice you agreed to. No name, no account, no IP address, and never your location. Delete your sign-up any time.
A camera added to the map inside a circle you pick, from 1 mile to 15 miles around a place. A plate reader counts when it is first mapped. A speed or red light camera counts when a city’s list adds it. A speed camera also counts in the month its warnings or tickets start, by the dates on the map. An expected date says “about”. It goes in your next summary email.
Plate readers from any maker, as mapped on OpenStreetMap. Speed cameras from city lists. Red light cameras from city lists and public records. Traffic cameras from Caltrans’ list. Plate readers and speed cameras carry dates. A traffic camera is dated from the day CamsAhead first saw it on Caltrans’ list. Red light camera lists have none, so their history starts with CamsAhead’s own change log.
Yes. Add up to three places, such as home, work and school, each with its own circle. The monthly summary covers each one. In the car, Drive (Beta) marks each camera ahead while CamsAhead is open.
Flock Safety makes them. The police department, city, homeowners’ association or business that buys them runs them and sets who can see the plate reads and for how long. Some publish a transparency page with those rules. CamsAhead shows who runs a camera when the map says so, and “Not listed yet” when it doesn’t.
