Do Waze, Google Maps and Apple Maps show speed cameras?

Apple says Apple Maps alerts you to speed and red light cameras along your route. Google Maps' help pages describe speed limits and "Mobile speed camera" reports from other users. Waze's help page lists speed, red light and other cameras, from its partners and map editors, with alerts on by default.

LADOT lists 125 Los Angeles speed camera locations.

What each app says it shows

Each cell sums up what that app's own pages say, and a gap reads "Not in its help pages." A speed camera checks speed on one stretch of road, and a red light camera watches one intersection for cars entering on red.

Apple Maps

Apple's App Store page for Apple Maps says you can "view speed limits and get alerts for speed and red-light cameras along your route." Apple lists the US for camera alerts.

Drivers can also report speed checks. Apple says it reviews these reports and shows them to other users once it has high confidence in them.

Google Maps

Google Maps Help says its speedometer tells you when you go over the posted limit, "if the Speed Limits feature is available in your location."

User reports include "Mobile speed camera." When another user adds one, it shows on your map as you get closer, and you "might also hear an alert." Near the spot, the app asks, "Is this still here?"

Waze

Waze's help page lists speed cameras, red light cameras, and cameras that check both. It names other types too. Among them are stop sign, bus lane, carpool lane, seat belt and noise cameras.

Waze says cameras come from reports by its "partners and map editors." A Google blog post adds that Waze community members use road information and public data from local authorities.

Camera alerts are on by default. The same post calls them "a helpful reminder about an area's traffic rules."

Turn camera alerts on or off

Apple Maps

Apple describes a speed limit switch. Open the Settings app, tap Apps, then Maps, then Driving, and "turn on or off Compass and Speed Limit."

Google Maps

Under "Alert options," turn "Get alerts for reported incidents and other conditions that may impact your drive" on or off. This one switch covers all reported incidents. On CarPlay, tap "All alerts" to turn alerts on, or "None" to turn them off.

Waze

Go to Settings > Alerts and reports > Reports > Cameras, and pick a camera type. "Show on map" puts its alerts on the map, and "Alert while driving" adds a voice alert and a pop-up on your screen.

Make changes on your phone. If it is connected to Android Auto or CarPlay, disconnect it first, and the changes will apply in your car.

Los Angeles speed cameras

LADOT lists 125 speed camera locations in Los Angeles. The first ones switch on Oct 26, 2026, and 26 are listed as "Warning Live".

None of the help pages for Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze mention the speed cameras in Los Angeles.

State law calls for a sign before each camera. It says "Photo Enforced" and shows the posted limit, within 500 feet before the camera (California Vehicle Code §22425(d)). It is there for anyone walking, biking or driving by.

The Los Angeles speed camera page lists each location with its posted limit and status. See each listed location on the map.

Outside the US

Apple's feature page lists the countries where Apple Maps shows speed cameras, and the US is one of them. France, Germany and Switzerland are on its "Maps: Speed Limits" list, but not on "Maps: Speed Cameras." Apple's page doesn't say why.
