What is on the map

Speed cameras (35,071): fixed cameras, and average speed sections where volunteers tagged them as cameras.

Red light cameras (3,201): cameras at traffic lights.

Other enforcement (509): weight, height and access cameras, as mapped.

Toll gantries are not drawn: they read plates for a toll, not for speed. "First mapped" is the day a volunteer added a camera, never an install date, and a country's number is what volunteers have mapped, not an official total.

Countries that publish their own camera list

Where a country publishes its cameras, that list is the authority; this page does not merge it with the OpenStreetMap numbers.

Posted limits as mapped

27,916 of the 38,781 cameras carry a posted limit on the map. The most common is 50 km/h (11,998 cameras). Posted limits only.

Speed cameras in Europe: questions

What do the numbers mean?

Each number is the cameras volunteers have added to OpenStreetMap in that country, as of October 26, 2026. "First mapped" is the day a volunteer added a camera, never the day it was installed. A camera reported removed stays on the map with that note and is not counted.

Does France send speeding tickets to the UK or the US?

EU countries exchange vehicle keeper details for road offences under Directive (EU) 2015/413. The UK left that exchange when it left the EU. For a rental car, the rental company holds the driver's details either way.

What happens if a camera flashes me abroad?

The notice goes to the vehicle's registered keeper. For a rental car, it goes to the rental company, which passes on the driver's details.

Which countries publish their own camera list?

France (Radars automatiques, data.gouv.fr). Where a country publishes its cameras, that list is the authority; this page does not merge it with the OpenStreetMap numbers.

Why is a country's number so low?

Volunteers map the cameras they see, so a country with few mappers has few cameras on the map. The numbers are not an official total.

Where is the UK?

In the table, and on its own pages: UK speed camera map, by road and city.
